Students Get an Up Close Look at Park Ranger Careers with World of Work
If you ask any young child what they want to be when they grow up, oftentimes you will hear answers like a firefighter, police officer, teacher, or veterinarian. For every student, these careers may not be the right fit for the strengths, interests, and values they develop as they go through school, learn, and grow. The World of Work program ensures that districts are able to expose every student in every class in their schools to a wide range of career options that suit their natural abilities. One aspect of the World of Work is the opportunity for students to go on virtual field trips that are streamed right into their classroom where industry professionals talk about their job and why they love it.
At WD Hall Elementary School in El Cajon, California, students were able to experience a World of Work Meet a Pro in person! Ranger Kyle and Ranger Jason from the County of San Diego Parks and Recreation came in and spoke about their experiences as park rangers. The students learned about how park rangers take care of the parks in the county, so the creatures and plants that live there can thrive. Students also learned how to care for animals, be kind to the environment, and identify plants. What a great opportunity for children interested in the environment, animals, or conservation to meet professionals who love their jobs.
