Classroom Connections Made Through World of Work Program to Children’s Future Careers
The World of Work program connects students to ideas and goals for their futures. Through the four level process World of Work presents, teachers guide their students through a series of lessons, activities, and experiences that help them understand what types of careers are available to them. The 4 levels of World of Work are simple: students hear about a career, tinker with it, meet a professional in that career, and then practice it. Virtual Meet a Pro chat sessions are always available for schools within the World of Work network to view, and sometimes industry professionals even come directly into the classroom to meet students!
Customer Service Representatives that are trained well and have skills to solve problems and care for customer concerns are in high demand. Deanna Reynolds from Team Kia and Team Mazda in El Cajon, California visited a classroom of third graders to share her experiences in the customer service field. The students in Mrs. Jones’ class were prepared to hear Deanna speak with many questions that impressed Deanna. The World of Work curriculum that is integrated into this classroom helps students think critically about their futures, so when they have Meet a Pro experiences they are better able to process how what the speaker is saying relates to their own future.
Deanna’s visit to Mrs. Jones’ classroom helped the students understand that good customer service practices are necessary in any field they may go into. Customer Service Representatives are important for a business’s growth and success, and Deanna was able to explain to students during this in-person Meet a Pro that the things they do and say at work really matter to a customer’s experience.
