World of Work Program Blends with Teacher Plans to Create Well-Rounded Curriculum
The curriculum that school districts obtain when they partner with the World of Work opens new doors and avenues for teachers to connect their students with their future. With the World of Work initiative, students are given opportunities time and time again to find out their own strengths and natural abilities to gain a better understanding of what type of job would suit them best. Through learning, hands on experience, and opportunities to meet with industry professionals, students from Kindergarten up into high school see the potential they have to strive for in a future job. The World of Work program gives teachers the access to show their students Meet a Pro Chats, which are virtual field trips with professionals streamed to the classroom. Through the World of Work, classrooms like Mrs. Jones’ third grade class W.D. Hall Elementary School can also be connected directly with an industry professional for an in person Meet a Pro experience.
Daniel Buksa with Mission Realty Group came to Mrs. Jones’ class to talk about his experiences as a realtor. The students in Mrs. Jones’ class had been learning about integrity and how important it is to have integrity in your relationships. During the Meet a Pro experience with Daniel, he highlighted how his integrity helps him build positive and trusting relationships with his clients, enabling him to be a better real estate agent who people are able to trust with the important task selling and buying homes. In the career-based personality categories called RIASEC, Daniel is an E for Enterprising, meaning he is most interested in a career working with people and leading and persuading others towards goals. As a real estate agent, Daniel uses interpersonal skills and his ability to lead others every day as he helps others with their housing needs. Daniel Buksa has found his perfect job fit, and through the multi-faceted curriculum of the World of Work program, which includes ways to identify a child’s RIASEC strengths, students can find a path to their perfect career fit, too!
